The Grand Est region and the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland cooperate in cross-border regional transport. During the summer months, young people under the age of 28 can travel on regional trains on the Main Line for Europe between Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Strasbourg, Nancy and Paris at no extra cost with the Deutschland-Ticket or the Pass Jeune Grand/Grenzenlos. The offer is valid in July and August and includes regional trains such as IRE, RE, RB, S-Bahn and TER Fluo, but not long-distance and local trains.
Franck Leroy, President of the Grand Est Region, emphasised the importance of this ticket for a united and solidarity-based Europe when the offer was launched. State Secretary Elke Zimmer and State Secretary Sebastian Thul also welcomed the initiative and highlighted the benefits for the environment and the promotion of the European idea.
Young travellers need a valid ticket and an identity card or passport. Reservations for certain routes can be made free of charge via SNCF Connect. The cooperation is seen as a step towards strengthening European cooperation and creating direct cross-border train connections.
