ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) is expanding its network in Southeast Europe. As the company announces, a new train is now running between Budapest and the Croatian Mediterranean port of Rijeka. This is a direct connection without a stopover for maritime goods flows.

According to RCG, the Budapest-Rijeka connection is particularly suitable for 20- and 40-foot containers. With two round trips per week, the train operates between the BILK terminal in Budapest and the terminal in the port of Rijeka. From the BILK terminal, it is possible to reach other destinations in Western Europe such as Neuss, Vienna, Wels or Ludwigshafen via antenna connections.

Departures in Budapest are Wednesday and Friday. The loading unit can be picked up in Rijeka on Friday or Tuesday noon. In the opposite direction, the train leaves Rijeka on Tuesday (or Friday). The loading unit is then ready for collection in Budapest on Friday or Monday noon. The new service is part of RCG’s TransFER network, which consists of a total of 60 connections.
